Lullaby for my favourite insomniac.
Ahn Trio
This is my CD of the year to date! The Ahn Trio are three gorgeous looking Korean American sisters, who are classically trained musicians and together create an album of music to die for. On piano, violin and cello you will swoon to their heart felt renditions of some truly great pieces of music. Their version of Michel Nyman's "Heart Asks Pleasure First" from movie The Piano is powerful and a delight to hear. Guest vocalists shine on several stand-out tracks like "All I Want" and "Solitary Singer," but it is the playing of these sublime musicians which places this album amongst the firmament of stars. This is music you can eat to, make love to and meditate upon the depths of your very soul. If you buy one CD this year for yourself or want to give a present with real feeling, make it this one. www.sonybmgmasterworks.com
Light on the water.
Timothy Cooper
The purity of the solo piano as an instrument is highlighted on Timothy Cooper's CD, Light on the Water. This is music to reflect upon and consider, meditate to and be massaged to, as a quiet passion runs through this work. Beautiful piano playing takes you on an insistent journey into soul territory and what you will find there is what is at your centre. Music imbued with courage and conviction for the coming home experience. This CD is highly recommended for healers and therapists as ambient music with emotional intelligence. www.new-piano-age.com
The Message Stick - World Ballads for a Peaceful Planet.
Tribe World Ensemble
This is the follow up to 'The Gathering' CD - Australian David Pendragon, music producer, has gathered together musicians from all over the world via the Internet to create an album of truly world music. These musicians never met in the flesh, everything was done via the technology of the Internet - so this is a message stick of peace created by the high tech means now at our disposal here in the West. The music however is played by real musicians and not simply created by synthesisers and many of the songs covered will be immediately recognisable - Cat Steven's 'Where do the children play,' Bruce Cockburn's 'Child of the wind,' and Suzanne Vega's 'Small blue thing.' Passionately sung and played music that brings some very good unsung performers from around the globe - mixing original compositions with some heart tugging classic ballads. Worth repeated listening. www.brumbybooks.com
